Mayor Carl Shaw administers the oath of office to new Council members Sandra Woodward, George West, and Ann McDermand

The May 7th City Council meeting was filled with contention as the new city officials replaced the old and began a new year.

Most of the controversy centered on whether the new mayor could appoint a new Finance Officer, in effect removing Tami Habeck from the job she has held for the past five years.

Mayor Carl Shaw asked the council to approve his appointment of Karen Cain as the finance officer for May 2013-May 2014.

The First Lady of South Dakota is Coming to Town

South Dakota’s First Lady Linda Daugaard is coming to Edgemont this Thursday! She will be at the Elementary School reading to the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students from 10:30 to 11:00.
Let’s give her a real Edgemont welcome!

Two Resignations From School

The School board met Monday, May 13th at 7 p.m.. After opening business and approval of the agenda and minutes, the Board entered into Executive Session for Personnel/Negotiations. After an hour and a half executive session, the board resumed an open meeting.

The Board regretfully accepted the following two resignations.
Breck Turner’s resignation was accepted with regret. The coaching portion of Breck’s job will be first advertised ‘in house.’

Above, new members are inducted into National Honor Society

Last Thursday evening Edgemont’s Chapter of the National Honor Society held its induction, with four members being added: Rodney Darrow, Miles Englebert, Kyle Litzel, and Mason Ostenson.
Junior High Honors program also added eleven new members.
The Honors programs are supervised by Ms. Sue Hendricks.
Congratulation to all Honors students!

The same evening, the 7-12 grade band and choirs performed under the direction of Mrs. Suzanne Hollenbeck.
